I know I talked a little about what self-care was and the forms that it could take in my post “What is Self Care?” but I wanted to go into a bit more detail about what self-care looked like. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not exactly an expert on self-care, but that’s ok. The way I see it, self-care is just as much about the journey as the destination. There are pretty much as many forms of self-care as there are people that need them. Everyone is different and handles stress differently, so it’s only natural that the various forms of self-care will work better for some than for others. It’s also entirely possible that something that works for you in one situation may not always have the same effect in another.
This past year things have been crazy with the pandemic and the lockdowns. While the state of things started to improve for a while, with new variants of the virus spreading like crazy, it’s entirely possible that we could be heading back into lockdowns. Like with many others, the pandemic has definitely taken a toll on my mental and physical health. Lately, things have been especially rough. I won’t bore you guys with the details, but things got pretty bad for a bit.
I got through the worst of it, but it got me thinking about what I could do to get myself in a better place mentally. In a way, these posts are a part of the self-care journey for me. Even when things settle down and we are entirely past the pandemic, there will always be things in life that will stress you out, so you will always need ways to unwind and release that stress. That’s why the journey of self-care is so important. The more you learn about self-care, the more options you have available to you when you need to destress.
While I was thinking about different forms of self-care, two of the first things I thought of were crystals and aromatherapy. They are both common forms of self-care and ones that interest me personally; I mean, who doesn’t love things that smell good? As for crystals, I’ve loved them ever since I was a little kid, and I’ve built up a pretty decent collection of them over the years. I think it’ll be interesting to see how my collection can be put to use.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be doing a series of posts, which I’m affectionately calling Self-Care Sundays. These posts will highlight the ways I find to use my various crystals for self-care and different ways to incorporate aromatherapy. Maybe I’ll even find a way to combine the two. Each Self-Care Sunday will be like another step on the journey, and I look forward to embarking on it with you. So, until next week, take care of yourselves, friends.
